This little purple plant – also known as agnus castus or vitex agnus castus – comes from a sun-loving shrub that thrives around the Mediterranean and parts of Asia, bursting with lilac flowers and berry clusters.
Scientists think chasteberry acts on the pituitary gland – the brain’s hormone control centre. Research suggests it can reduce levels of prolactin, a hormone that sometimes drives PMS signs like sore breasts, headaches and mood swings.
